The Bissell Pet Foundation and the Kent County Animal Shelter have joined forces again for their Empty the Shelters event, which gives potential pet owners the opportunity to adopt a vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered pet for just $50 dollars or less.
Currently, the Kent County Animal Shelter is at critical capacity, and they need the public’s help with finding forever homes for as many pets as possible, however they want to remind prospective pet owners that adopting a furry friend is a lifelong commitment, and to make sure people are taking a thoughtful approach to pet adoption.
The Empty the Shelters event runs through this Sunday, December 17th. Bissell is also doubling any donations made to their Pet Foundation through the end of the year.
And while you may be considering gifting a pet to someone special this holiday season, the Michigan Attorney General’s office wants to remind you to be on the lookout for puppy scams.
Many Michigan residents have been tricked into paying for pets that do not exist or adopting animals with undisclosed health or behavioral issues.
The Attorney General’s office recommends those looking to adopt do their research, not only of the dog breed, but the breeder as well. Do not purchase a puppy sight unseen. Pay for all purchases with a credit card and retain a record of all transactions with the breeder.
