Charged with second degree murder in shooting death of Patrick Lyoya.

After months of delays, the preliminary trial of former Grand Rapids Police Officer, Christopher Schurr, begins Thursday morning.

Schurr is charged with second degree murder after shooting Congolese Immigrant Patrick Lyoya in the back of the head during a traffic stop on April 4th.

Schurr, who has pleaded not guilty, has been out of jail since June after posting a $100,000 bond.

The Grand Rapids Police Department terminated his employment two months after the shooting.

Beginning at 8:30 AM, Thursday's preliminary examination will determine if there's enough evidence to send the case trial.

WGVU will be in the courtroom and bring you the full story as details become available.
