The Grand Ledge Armory is one of many slated for renovations to make military accommodations more gender inclusive in the state.
Staff Sergeant Chandra Taylor is a new mother. She says women-focused upgrades at her armory, like a lactation room, help with her productivity.
“There was nowhere for me to pump before now I have a room that I can go into, take my laptop, work, pump, I can still provide for my son, and I can still do my job as a soldier.”
The U.S. Army previously required commanders to designate a specific space for lactation.
With the help of federal funding, the state has set 100-million-dollars aside for updating over 30 national guard facilities total.
