Craig’s campaign is low on options after alleged signature fraud among paid gatherers cost him a spot on the primary ballot

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig is planning to seek the Republican nomination for Michigan governor through a write-in campaign. Michigan Public Radio’s Colin Jackson has more.

The announcement comes as Craig’s campaign runs low on options after alleged signature fraud among paid gatherers cost him a spot on the primary ballot.

Craig says he’s working to account for no longer having debate invitations and other privileges of being a named candidate in the primary.

“I certainly will not have the campaign staff that I had before this. So that’s going to be somewhat different. So, there’s some things that the team and I are working through.”

Richard Czuba—of the research firm Glengariff Group—says Craig has relative name recognition. But:

“Let’s see the money. Before we take this too seriously, let’s see what kinds of money he’s got to do it.”
