Crowds gathered in Ah-Nab-Awen Park on Thursday evening to rally for support in Ukraine, amid Russia's attacks.
The event ran from 5-7pm. Attendees made a sea of blue and yellow, sporting colors of the Ukrainian flag and posters that read “Stop Russian Aggression” and “Hands off Ukraine." While chanting "Peace in Ukraine, no war!" speakers demanded more action to stop Russia's invasion of the country and its people.
“Find your senator. Find your congressman. Write White house and request to send more weapon to Ukraine,” one speaker said.
George Devuyst, a Ukrainian resident, has been stuck in the U.S. since he and his daughters visited this summer.
"Now we are stuck here because of the war," he said. "...Our hearts are breaking everyday just and an hour ago we got a picture of the school that these guys go to and right behind it has just been bombed, columns of smoke. It’s very close to home.”
As Devuyst hears about the fear and destruction from his friends back home, he said he hopes the U.S. government, along with other world leaders will take action to stop the violence.
"Some have had to flee because they found out that they’re on the Russian hitlist...I hope that we can resettle refugees here, and I'd really like to ask the U.S. to reconsider no fly zones, because that’s what would really save the most lives here in Ukraine," he said.
