Menstrual products now tax-free

Menstrual products are no longer subject to Michigan taxes…starting today.

Michigan lawmakers had pushed for over a decade to end the state’s so-called “tampon tax” before succeeding last October.

House Minority Leader Donna Lasinski says now it’s time to focus on pay equity and reproductive rights legislation.

“We have put these ideas forth just as we did with the tampon tax for over six sessions and over 15 bills. We will continue to build coalitions, to build strength, and to work together to vote so we that can ensure reproductive freedom for all.”

But Republican leadership has signaled it’s unlikely to budge on changing Michigan’s strict anti-abortion laws. Those laws are superseded by abortion protections in Roe-V-Wade, but they would take effect if the U-S Supreme Court overturns that ruling.
