Monday, Governor Whitmer signed legislation creating the $1 billion Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve Fund financially assisting companies. The state also awarded nine workforce grants. Four of them supporting West Michigan programs.
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity – also known as LEO - is working with employers in need of additional talent. It’s distributing $2 million dollars through nine grants awarded to adult education programs dedicated to career and technical skill workforce development.
West Michigan recipients include Allegan County Area Technical & Education Center, Kent Career Tech Center, Muskegon Area Career Tech Center and Ottawa Area ISD’s Careerline Tech Center.
Michigan Works! Will assist businesses seeking students training in construction trades, healthcare, information technology, machining, robotics and welding.
