Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson today slammed a Republican package of election bills.

Hearings are expected to begin soon on 39 bills – including measures to require a photo I-D to vote in person, or to get a mail-in ballot.

Benson said the bills are aimed at problems that don’t exist, but would tamp down voter participation.

Benson said what’s happening in Michigan is also taking place in other states.

“Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Iowa, Wyoming. Soon, Ohio. We’re seeing the exact same bills, exact same language.”

A GOP-led petition campaign is also in the works to initiate a law that could not be vetoed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
