In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak across the state, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer Friday signed an executive order banning all events and gatherings of more than 250 people as the number of people who have tested presumptive positive for the coronavirus continues to grow.
The executive order begins Friday and will last until April 5th, but could be extended.
“Prohibiting large assemblages is the smart thing to do to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Chief Deputy for Health and Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said in a statement.
“It’s crucial that everyone in Michigan follow these orders and make smart choices that will slow the spread of the virus, including practicing good hygiene and social distancing.”
The executive order excludes those working in manufacturing jobs, mass transit, or the purchasing of consumer goods.
