The Legislature’s Republican leaders say they’re going to start sending budget bills to Governor Gretchen Whitmer without the road money she’s asked for.
As we hear from WGVU’s Rick Pluta, Whitmer says that increases the risk of a state government shutdown.

The Democratic governor says she won’t approve a budget unless it includes new money for roads and schools. And GOP leaders say they’re ready to start adopting budget bills on their terms and send them to Whitmer’s desk. Then it will be up to her to sign or veto them.
The state’s new fiscal year begins October first.
Tiffany Brown is the governor’s press secretary. She says there are still three weeks to resolve the impasse without a budget crisis.

“She remains committed to anyone who wants to work with her on real solutions to get the budget done.”

Whitmer’s asked for a gas tax increase as part of her plan. GOP leaders say there’s little to no support among Republicans for any type of tax increase.
