Grand Rapids Police recruiting volunteers

The Grand Rapids Police Department announced that its expanding its volunteer program and is now accepting applications from citizens who are interested in becoming a member of the GRPD Police Volunteer Program.

Police officials said the program is an opportunity for adults to invest back into the community.

Police say volunteering in the program is an effective way to improve community life, help others in need, and provide an opportunity to give back. Volunteers will provide critical services to Grand Rapids such as responding to reports of found property, enforcement of parking violations, assisting disabled or elderly citizens, conducting vacation house checks and observing and reporting suspicious activity within the city.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and a US citizen. Police say there is no cost to volunteer and uniforms are provided.
