The rescue however, sheds light on a disturbing trend…according to the Great Lakes Surf Project, an organization that tracks fatalities in Lake Michigan, last year proved to be the deadliest in history with 48 lost lives, while there have already been 13 drownings this year in Lake Michigan.
One day after two people had to be rescued out of the water at Grand Haven State Park, The U.S. Coast Guard warned the public again on Tuesday to stay out of Lake Michigan.
Officials say, Up to 30-mile-an-hour winds, 8-foot-high waves, rip currents, dense fog and the chance for showers and thunderstorms moving in, all will make swimming in Lake Michigan potentially fatal.
The beach hazard warning stretches from Muskegon County to Manistee.
A similar warning had been issued on Sunday, however, public safety officials said, 2 swimmers had to be rescued out of the water on Memorial Day at Grand Haven State Park.
According to a press release from Grand Haven Public Safety, beachgoers formed a human chain and used a life ring to reach one of the swimmers, while marine Deputies in patrol boats from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department were able to rescue the second swimmer.
Both were transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital and are in stable condition.
