Health departments also announce end dates for county schools mask mandates.

The Kent County Health Department and the Ottawa County Department of Public Health will make available the two-dose Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5-11. The kid-sized doses were approved earlier this week when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended its use after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized it for emergency use.

The Kent County Health Department will begin distributing the vaccine at its three clinics beginning Tuesday, November 9th. Those appointments can be made by calling (616) 632-7200.

The Ottawa County Department of Public Health will begin its distribution beginning Saturday, November 6th by appointment.

Both health departments require minor be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 years old. The vaccine is 91-percent effective and free of charge. It’s a two-shot vaccine administered three weeks apart.

The Kent County Health Department says the current mask mandate will expire 60-days after the date the vaccine is authorized and approved. Ottawa County says its face masks order in educational settings will be rescinded January 2nd.
