U.S. intelligence officials have warned lawmakers that Russia is interfering in the 2020 election to help President Donald Trump get re-elected. The president is calling it hoax. However, the man President Trump nominated to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Russia, and who resigned the post in 2019, warns that the Russians are back at it. WGVU attended the January World Affairs Council of Western Michigan luncheon where the former ambassador sounded the alarm.

The World Affairs Council of Western Michigan celebrating its 70th Anniversary honoring regional and national influential figures with inaugural prizes. WGVU’s was at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids for the ceremonies.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia and China, Jon Huntsman Jr. received the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan’s first annual Vandenberg Prize named in honor of Michigan Senator Arthur Vandenberg who was a proponent of forming NATO and endorsing the creation of the United Nations.

The Ambassador of Mexico to the United States visited West Michigan Tuesday as a guest of the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.

The Ambassador of China to the United States visited Grand Rapids Friday as a guest of the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan. Retired Ambassador Nicholas Burns was at his side for a discussion about the trade war and future U.S.-China relations and the global economy.

NPR political commentator Cokie Roberts says every member of Congress should read the book Arthur Vandenberg: The Man in the Middle of the American Century for a lesson in leadership. Its author is Grand Rapids businessman Hank Meijer who spoke Wednesday night at a World Affairs Council of Western Michigan event.
