The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the weekend report of a Grand Valley State University student sexually assaulted near the Allendale campus.

The alleged sexual assault of a Grand Valley student took place Sunday morning between 3:30 and 4:00 AM in an off-campus parking lot at the Campus West Apartments. The student reported two unknown men were responsible for the assault. No further description provided.

Victims of Dr. Larry Nassar begin testimony at four-day sentencing hearing

Testimony has begun in a four-day sentencing hearing for Larry Nassar, after the disgraced, Michigan sports doctor pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting young female athletes under the guise of medical care. 

Bethany Bauman is just one of nearly 100 victims that are expected to testify at the sentencing hearing of former Doctor Larry Nassar over a four day period.

Authorities say a former northern Michigan school bus driver has been charged with inappropriately touching a student on his bus.  66-year-old Larry Beutler of Buckley was arraigned Wednesday by video on three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He told the court that he understood the charges against him and is jailed on $200,000 bond. Court records didn't list a lawyer for Beutler. 

Three former Michigan State football players charged with sexual assault have waived a key hearing and will advance to trial. Michigan judges typically decide whether there is enough evidence to hold a trial. But Josh King, Donnie Corley Jr. and Demetric Vance waived that hearing Thursday in East Lansing.

Workgroup will aim to help campus sexual assault survivors

First Lady Sue Snyder wants to help provide resources to sexual assault survivors on college campuses. Snyder announced Friday the creation of a workgroup that will provide information to survivors about support services in Michigan.

 

A criminal case review team has formed to look at sexual assault allegations on or near Grand Valley State University's Allendale campus. The update comes after the news organization last year reported some sexual assaults being disclosed to university staff were slow to reach police and some weren't forwarded to the Ottawa County prosecutor's office.

Prosecutors say they've received warrant requests from police at Michigan State University in a sexual assault investigation that has led to the suspension of three football players from team activities.

Law firm Drew, Cooper and Anding in Grand Rapids have filed a civil lawsuit in Federal Court accusing Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics of ignoring years of sexual abuse by longtime sports physician Dr. Larry Nassar as more and more women are coming forward claiming abuse. Currently, there are 18 women named as victims in the lawsuit, and that number may rise.

A former USA Gymnastics doctor and Michigan State University professor has been charged with criminal sexual assault. He was arraigned Tuesday.

Dr. Larry Nassar was the team physician for the MSU gymnastics program, and the doctor for the USA Gymnastics team for four Olympics. He faces three charges of sexually assaulting a girl who was under thirteen years old.

The alleged victim was not a patient or gymnast of Nassar’s.

The president of Grand Valley State University says he feels "devastated" by four sexual assaults near campus and calls the recent series of attacks a "cancer."

Grand Valley State University and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department continue efforts to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for a string of off-campus assaults. The fourth assault of a female Grand Valley student was reported Tuesday night outside off-campus apartments. The first occurred on Aug. 26.
