Every Sunday night on WGVU-HD following Downton at 10:00 is an American-based upstairs-downstairs period drama called Mercy Street exploring the medical and human side of the Civil War. I talk with actor McKinley Belcher III who plays character Samuel Diggs.

Today on Gifts for the Greater Good: Philanthropy in West Michigan how area employers are tapping into the veteran workforce for employment. Non-profits West Michigan Veterans Coalition and Goodwill Industries of Greater Grands recently hosted a Veteran/Employer Networking Event. We stopped in for the interviews at the Downtown Market to find out what employment barriers veterans returning to the civilian world face and how employers align veteran skill sets benefiting their workforce.

Grand Valley State University Athletic Director Tim  Selgo has led the Grand Valley State athletic program for 20 years and announced plans to retire at the end of this season.  Brent Ashcroft talked to him recently regarding a new scholarship in his name to benefit Laker student athletes.

The Grand Valley State University Swimming and Diving teams have created a family atmosphere with student athletes from all over the world.  The team spirit may be part of the reason The Men’s team is rated #3 in Division II while the Women are rated #4.

Marty Corby received her second Women’s Soccer Division II Player of the Year award this weekend.   She is even more excited about her chance to play with the US Soccer Under 23 Soccer team.  

WGVU Public Media will broadcast live Ralph Hauenstein: A Celebration of Life, The funeral will air on WGVU Life 35.2/52.2, WGVU 88.5/95.3 FM, and via the WGVU website tomorrow from 10 – 11 AM.

WGVU-FM talks with Gelaves Whitney, the Director of Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. Whitney spent more than a decade with Ralph Hauenstein both personally and professionally.
