Anti-government graffiti was painted on the Michigan Republican Party headquarters amid debate over a possible nationwide immigration sweep to deport people living the United States illegally.

State party officials say they discovered the graffiti, which included an expletive and the acronym "ICE" for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, on the front of the Lansing building Saturday evening. They reported it to Lansing police, who say it's believed to have been painted early Saturday.

Michigan Republican resigns after tweets about protesters

A Michigan Republican has resigned after causing outrage by suggesting that protesters at University of California, Berkeley, should be shot. Dan Adamini, secretary of the Marquette County GOP,stepped down so he isn't "a distraction and a hindrance to the work of the party."

The Michigan Senate is poised to vote to close the pension system to newly hired school employees and instead provide them solely a 401(k) in retirement. The Republican-controlled chamber plans to approve the plan Wednesday once it clears a committee. 

Republican Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof says the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System is "unsustainable" and at some point won't be able to finance pension benefits because of a $26.7 billion unfunded liability.

A state GOP leader is being removed from her party position because she won’t support Republican nominee Donald Trump for president. Michigan Republican grassroots vice chair Wendy Lynn Day is the liaison between the party and the Tea Party movement.

Day was elected at a state party convention last year. She supported Senator Ted Cruz in the primary but has publicly said she can’t back Trump, whom she does not consider a true Republican.
