Juan Zamora is a 17-year old, Grand Rapid’s West Sider who first learned to play football at 3 years old  when his dad, Juan Zamora Senior, bought him a soccer ball and showed him how to dribble.  

Today, Juan is one of the fourteen hand-picked male athletes of the U.S. Youth Futsal team. 

“The next day I received an email and it said “you have been selected to be on the team.” It was midnight and I ran downstairs and I told my parents. I woke them up and they were happy.” 

Student Athletes from the Grand Valley State University's Football team enrolled in a bone marrow donation program last spring.

This winter tight end Nick Keizer found out he was a match with someone in need and didn't hesitate to make a life saving donation.

Defensive linemen are one of the toughest positions to recruit for in college football.  The Grand Valley State Lakers have come up with a good one in Mark Rosenquist who hails from Sweden.  Tom Cleary has the story on how Mark ended up in Allendale.

Grand Valley State University Senior placekicker, Joel Schipper, has been putting the ball through the uprights for the Lakers over four seasons.

Tom Cleary features the two-sport athlete from Grand Rapids Christian High School.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association says its unique sideline concussion testing program for athletes in football and other sports is having a positive impact but long-term funding is an issue as it heads into its second and final year.

Executive Director Jack Roberts says member schools in its pilot program removed players for possible concussions at a higher rate than schools that were not.

His group on Monday released results of its first head-injury survey of more than 750 high schools from 2015-2016 sports.

Grand Valley State University's football team beat the Tiffin Dragons 45-7 in its home opener at Lubbers Stadium Thursday night.  The Lakers are rated number three in the country.  Tom Cleary talks with head coach Matt Mitchell about the teams depth and health as the season gets underway.

NFL team scouts visited Allendale for Pro Day on Tuesday. Those scouts got an up close look at Kirk Spencer, Jim Walsh, Branden Revenburg and Ben Hutchins. The second half of the Pro day session belonged to Matt Judon who is projected to be the highest NFL pick in Grand Valley State History.    

Student Athletes on the Grand Valley State University football team have been given a chance to not only give back to the community but possibly save lives.  Tom Cleary features the opportunity given to them by Spectrum Health enrolling in a National Bone Marrow doner program.
