Juan Zamora is a 17-year old, Grand Rapid’s West Sider who first learned to play football at 3 years old  when his dad, Juan Zamora Senior, bought him a soccer ball and showed him how to dribble.  

Today, Juan is one of the fourteen hand-picked male athletes of the U.S. Youth Futsal team. 

“The next day I received an email and it said “you have been selected to be on the team.” It was midnight and I ran downstairs and I told my parents. I woke them up and they were happy.” 

Student Athletes from the Grand Valley State University's Football team enrolled in a bone marrow donation program last spring.

This winter tight end Nick Keizer found out he was a match with someone in need and didn't hesitate to make a life saving donation.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association says its unique sideline concussion testing program for athletes in football and other sports is having a positive impact but long-term funding is an issue as it heads into its second and final year.

Executive Director Jack Roberts says member schools in its pilot program removed players for possible concussions at a higher rate than schools that were not.

His group on Monday released results of its first head-injury survey of more than 750 high schools from 2015-2016 sports.

NFL team scouts visited Allendale for Pro Day on Tuesday. Those scouts got an up close look at Kirk Spencer, Jim Walsh, Branden Revenburg and Ben Hutchins. The second half of the Pro day session belonged to Matt Judon who is projected to be the highest NFL pick in Grand Valley State History.    

Student Athletes on the Grand Valley State University football team have been given a chance to not only give back to the community but possibly save lives.  Tom Cleary features the opportunity given to them by Spectrum Health enrolling in a National Bone Marrow doner program.
