Grand Rapids’ major entertainment venues have broken attendance records this past year. WGVU’ breaks down the figures at DeVos Place, DeVos Performance Hall and Van Andel Arena.

Van Andel Arena celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016 and did it in style. On home ice, the 2016-2017 Grand Rapids Griffins won its second AHL Calder Cup Championship and musician Paul McCartney set a single event record with the most gross ticket sales. That show was just one of 60 performances and 37 events hosted by the downtown arena.

University of Michigan officials say the spring commencement ceremonies will mark the school's bicentennial with notable people from its past and present. The Ann Arbor school this year honors 20 alumni with a Bicentennial Alumni Award, including Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. They won an Oscar for their song, "City of Stars" from the film "La La Land," and will perform at the April 29 ceremony.

Officials at Michigan attractions are seeing positives and negatives from people playing the Pokemon Go smartphone game.

The Saginaw News says the Saginaw Children's Zoo is reporting an uptick in visitors looking for place to collect virtual items for the game.

Marketing and Communication Coordinator Lizzy Schultz says young people playing the game initially left a security guard baffled.

Schultz is encouraging visitors, saying: "Come and see the animals and catch the Pokemon and then take a break from your phones and come and see the real animals."
