An armed and dangerous homicide suspect led Wyoming and Grand Rapids Police on highway chase ending with a deadly force encounter on the U.S. 131 S-Curve in downtown Grand Rapids.

What began as an early morning homicide at the City of Wyoming’s Creekside Estates Mobile Home Park ended with the armed, wanted suspect exchanging gunfire with Grand Rapids Police atop the S-Curve in downtown Grand Rapids.

More than $4 million dollars will be invested in an iconic building along Wyoming’s 28th Street. What was once home to Rogers Department Store and Klingman’s Furniture will soon have a new business moving in.

In Tuesday's general election, voters in Wyoming approved a $79.5 million school improvement bond. Wyoming Public School District officials had argued before Tuesday’s vote that its schools were in desperate need of renovation. Now, Superintendent Dr. Thomas Reeder says, thanks to the voters, the bond will completely overhaul the district and bring it into the 21st. Century.

Authorities say a trench collapse in western Michigan has left one worker dead and one rescued. Wyoming Fire Chief Chuck Lark said firefighters were called about 2 p.m. Monday to a residence where the collapse occurred. 

When they arrived, one man was waist-deep in dirt, rescued and transported to a hospital while the other was completely covered. First responders were working Monday afternoon to recover the body. Lark said it appeared the workers were digging a sewer line as deep as 20 feet from a home.

Western Michigan police say they've arrested a 21-year-old man believed responsible for the hit-and-run death of a 26-year-old woman struck by a pickup truck equipped with a snowplow.

 Police in the Grand Rapids-area community of Wyoming say the man was arrested Wednesday. His name was not immediately released while he awaits arraignment. Police say the truck hit 26-year-old Chelsea Crawford of Wyoming on Tuesday morning while she was walked along a road. She died at the scene. Police say they located the truck Tuesday evening in a parking lot and impounded it.

Authorities say a pedestrian has been fatally struck by a pickup truck equipped with a snowplow in western Michigan. Police in the Grand Rapids-area community of Wyoming say the truck hit the person on Tuesday morning while she was walking along the roadway. 

The Wyoming Department of Public Safety is seeking the driver, who left the scene. The truck is described as a red, full-size Dodge Ram. The name of the person who was killed wasn't immediately known and police say she didn't have identification with her.

The City of Wyoming is receiving state grant dollars to help with improvements at a city park damaged by the 2014 tornado. Wyoming’s Ideal Park was hard hit by a tornado tracking through the area in 2014.

The park lost 90 percent of its mature trees and playground and a shelter were also heavily damaged.

The Grant to Help Ideal Park through the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund is providing $300,000 to replace the trees and replace damaged structures.

A popular 10-day carnival near Grand Rapids closed early because of two shootings nearby.

Police made the announcement Saturday.

The annual carnival, which is known for amusement park rides, was supposed to run through Sunday.

It's held in the parking lot of a former movie theater on 28th Street in Wyoming.

There were shootings Thursday and Friday near the carnival. One person was hurt.

The carnival was a fundraiser for the Wyoming parks department and a group that sponsors recreation programs. The goal was $30,000.
