Art Prize 10 kicks is now underway in Grand Rapids and one of the venues wants to make sure you know about it.  The Gerald R. Ford Airport is once again serving as a venue.  Officials say it's their second year and they’ve doubled the number of exhibits they’re hosting.  One exhibit in particular is already garnering buzz. It includes the man the airport is named after.

“We’re already hearing buzz from people who might be picking someone up, traveling out and they’re walking around and sort of mesmerized by all the art.”

An awards event takes place Friday night in Grand Rapids before ArtPrize wraps up on Sunday.

The first round of voting narrowed entries down to 20 chosen by the public and 20 by the jury. The second round of voting ran through this week.

During WGVU’s LZ Michigan ceremonies at Fifth Third Ballpark, a portrait honoring a Zeeland area fallen hero was presented to the Gold Star family of Marine Gunnery Sergeant Daniel Price who lost his life during a 2012 mission in Afghanistan. WGVU talks with the artist about his experience.

ArtPrize recently released the results from its 2016 Cultural, Social and Economic Impact report and 8th Annual ArtPrize.

ArtPrize organizers say over the 19-day event in 2016 drew a half million visitors to downtown Grand Rapids.

Lansing-based economics research and consulting firm, Anderson Economic Group, conducted surveys indicating visitors represented all 50 states and arrived from 47 countries. The data shows visitors are traveling greater distances to ArtPrize venues. The impact study reveals “63% of visitors traveling more than 30 miles to attend the event.”
