Women's March: Hundreds protest in Grand Rapids

One year after millions of people turned out for the Women’s March in Washington, cities across the country hosted their own demonstrations including Grand Rapids. Nearly 1000 women and men walked around the square block that houses Rosa Parks Circle to protest a variety of issues facing women on Sunday. While some said they were there to protest President Donald Trump and the comments he made during his campaign about greeting women by grabbing their genitalia, others said they were there as part of the #metoo movement.

“I marched last year in Washington and I think part of that is why I am here today, is it empowers us to see us all out here together,” Leslie Kingley said. “And we’re all out here for different reasons. But we are supporting those different reasons in one another.”

As they walked, some chanted “we need a leader, not a dirty tweeter” while other shouted “love not hate, makes America great.”

On Saturday President Trump tweeted his response to the women’s march:

"Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all women to march. Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!"
