Whitmer extends COVID restrictions by 12 days

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced today that restrictions on schools, businesses and public gatherings will continue for at least another 12 days.

That means bars and restaurants cannot offer indoor service. Colleges, universities, and high schools can only offer online classes. And casinos and movie theaters must remain closed. That’s a big hit for industries that rely heavily on holiday business.
This new order from the Department of Health and Human Services will remain in place through December 20th. But the governor said there are no guarantees the restrictions won’t be extended again, and reengagement, when it comes, will happen gradually.

“If our numbers come down a good amount, it still doesn’t mean that COVID is gone by Christmas.”

Whitmer said she’s trying to buy time and slow the spread of COVID-19 until a vaccine is available.
