Collene Lamonte is a former State Representative, having served in the Michigan House from 2013 to 2015. She says her campaign is focused on education and worker’s rights.

“I’m running for office because not only do I have the experience, but as a former educator I have seen what has happened to our schools over the last eight years,” Lamonte said. “I also want to work on workers’ rights. I want to make sure that our unions have the ability to negotiate for the conditions under which they are working. If we don’t do this, if we don’t invest in the middle class, we will see this economic engine fail as we have in the past.”

Poppy Sias-Hernandez is the director of the non-profit Good for Youth and runs a change management consulting firm. She says, her deep community roots compels her to work tirelessly on behalf of youth and families.

“I am running for the Michigan State Senate because I believe our candidates should be of, by and for the community,” Hernandez said. “I want to live in a community where young people have a right to a quality public education and I feel confident about sending my son to Muskegon Public Schools. I believe that access to quality health care and good prevention services is essential to a thriving community. And I have seen from firsthand experience that folks need to be able to provide for their families, that need to be able to earn a living wage. And $9 isn’t that.”
