Turning Point USA sues another college after settling with GVSU

After suing Grand Valley State University last year, Turning Point USA, a national conservative nonprofit student group, has filed a lawsuit against another college in Michigan. Attorneys representing Turning Point USA say the organization’s Macomb Community College chapter is challenging the school's "Policy on Expressive Activity" in a federal lawsuit filed this week at a U.S. District Court in Michigan.

Turning Point USA, which has college chapters across the country, says it trains students to "promote the principles of freedom, free markets and limited government." The complaint follows an April incident in which members of the chapter said college police told them they couldn't speak with other students, pass out literature or collect signatures on campus because they didn't have administrators' approval.

This past year, Grand Valley State University officials found themselves in a similar situation, when Turning Point USA filed a lawsuit last December against the school after GVSU campus police forced a couple of students to stop passing out copies of the constitution.

Turning Point USA, whose slogan is “Big Government Sucks” alleged the university unfairly restricted free speech by limiting expressive activity to "two small free-speech zones" on campus. GVSU settled the lawsuit in March.
