State department to release March and April food benefits early

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will issue its March and April food assistance benefits early. This is because of the previous government shutdown

The department changed the schedule so that recipients won’t have to go more than 45 days without receiving food assistance. The department had previously issued February benefits early due to a concern about the federal government shutdown impacting how much money would be available. Now the schedule should go back to normal in May. The department says they want to make sure all recipients can put food on their tables.
