Voters in Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana County turned out for the state Senate race in the 34th district featuring Democrat and Republican primaries. Political newcomer Poppy Sias-Hernandez (D) defeated Colleen Lamonte (D) with a 54 to 46 percent victory.
Sias-Hernandez says she’s uniquely prepared with a diverse background in public health, public education and non-profit and governmental sectors.
“What I want to bring to Lansing is a sense of urgency around the change that working families need in West Michigan," Sias Hernadez said. "To be able to live healthy, have a quality education, earn a living.”
