Senate leader retains outside lawyers to examine harassment complaints

McMorrow Twitter

The state Senate will retain outside legal counsel to help investigate allegations of sexual harassment against a Republican lawmaker.

This is the second instance of harassment accusations against Senator Peter Lucido.

Democratic state Senator Mallory McMorrow says she decided to speak out to follow the example of a young journalist who shared her first-person account of alleged harassment by Lucido.

McMorrow says she had an encounter with Lucido during orientation training in 2018. She says Lucido put his hand on her lower back and commented on her looks.

Amber McCann is the press secretary for Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey. She says both incidents are still under investigation, and it’s too early to discuss possible consequences.

“So the Senate Majority Leader will consider options once we know the findings of the investigations.”

Lucido told The Detroit News that McMorrow’s account of their encounter is not true.
