Michigan Street Corridor's Diamond Place features mixed-income apartments

Progressive AE

Grand Rapids’ Michigan Street corridor continues its eastbound development expansion with the groundbreaking of a $42 million mixed-use project.

“Ready? One…two…three…”

With that Grand Rapids city leaders and Diamond Place project partners with shovels in hand broke ground on 2.8 acres at the corner of Diamond and Michigan Streets. It’s where the old Proos Manufacturing facility once stood.

"We’ve been working on for a little over 12 years on this project so this is near and dear to our heart.” Brad Rosely is Principal at Third Coast Development. “This is going to be a mixed-use, mixed-income project that we’re breaking ground on today. I have 165 market rate and affordable housing component to it with retail to it and it will have a grocery store.”

“I think what’s unique and really wonderful about this project is that it does have mixed-income housing.”

City of Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss says it falls in line with the city’s Michigan Street Corridor Plan.

“Affordable housing units right in with market rate which is something at the city that we’ve been pushing developers to do more and more, so I’m so glad to see that in this project.”

The four story Diamond Place structure is scheduled for completion during the summer of 2018.
