Holland Public Schools hires a director of equity and inclusion
Bluegrass Community and Technical College

Taran McZee will join Holland Public Schools (HPS) in March as the new Director of Equity and Inclusion.  The position is part of an ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) intiative the school district has focused on.

"Knowing the district is ready for this type of work, that put my mind at ease. Knowing that I’m going in and am going to be able to affect change, but affect change where people want the change to happen," McZee said.

McZee is a Michigan native, hailing from Flint. He first got into DEI work when he was in college, and has since lent his skills to universities across America, including Grand Valley State University in West Michigan. Most recently working as a the Associate Vice President for DEI at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, McZee said he's excited to get back to home roots, adding that his goal is to create inclusive, diverse realtionships across the Holland community.

"To have an opportunity to work with Holland community stakeholders who are doing DEI work, I’m looking forward to meeting them as well as partnering with them to see how we incorporate more opportunities for the community and come together," he said.
