Man charged after shots fired at Battle Creek police officer

A 21-year-old man has been charged with assault with intent to murder after a Battle Creek police officer was shot at during a traffic stop.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Dariyone Clark-Brown also was arraigned Monday in Calhoun County District Court on fleeing from police, resisting police and gun charges.

Authorities say a driver stopped for speeding Saturday afternoon fired a shot as the officer leaned over to speak to him. The driver then sped away and eventually ran into a relative's home.

Police surrounded the house for several hours.

The newspaper reports that a police dog found Clark-Brown hiding behind a bookcase in a hole in a basement wall.

Clark-Brown later was treated for dog bites to his arm.

His bond has been set at $250,000.
