The legacy of William Van Regenmorter, whose noteworthy accomplishments included authorship of the state's Crime Victim's Rights Act of 1985, is being memorialized with a garden in western Michigan to honor crime victims.
Brick pavers are being sold for a plaza as part of the project at the northwest corner of the Ottawa County courthouse in Grand Haven.
The garden will feature a memorial stone, fountain and benches.
The garden's pathway will be lined with bricks engraved with the names of victims.
Van Regenmorter died in 2012 at the age of 73.
Under the Crime Victim's Rights Act, victims are required to be notified and consulted during the various steps of the legal process, such as before a prosecutor offers a plea bargain to a defendant.
