Jim Saalfeld served nine years as Kent County Commissioner for District 11 representing Ada and Grand Rapids Townships and the City of East Grand Rapids. Saalfeld won the seat in 2010 and won re-elections in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018. He served as both Vice Chair and Chair of the Board.

Saalfeld will officially resign March 15th. He explains as CEO of non-profit, Church Extension Fund, which assists with financing Lutheran churches and schools across the state, his duties there are limiting his time for board meetings.

In a news release, Saalfeld is proud of his accomplishments “including improving 911 emergency dispatch, enhancing collaboration with local governments, promoting agri-business in the region, working to end lead exposure in our County, and helping to maintain a fiscally responsible approach to governance. Today, I truly believe Kent County is in as good of shape as it has ever been.”

Saalfeld also left open a return to public service.
