Authorities are investigating after a construction worker was struck and killed by a vehicle in Grand Rapids. According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, first responders were called to the Hall Street bridge that travels over US 131 highway at around 11:30 Thursday morning, and found a 60-year-old man with “grievous” injuries, and say he “tragically died at the scene.”

According to police, a four-door sedan was traveling westbound on Hall, attempting to navigate around a lane closure sign that was set up to divert motorists around a construction zone.

A pedestrian, who was a part of a work crew doing work on the roadway, was attempting to get back into his work truck when the driver of the sedan struck him.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was questioned extensively by officers. Speed appears to be a factor, however, no charges have yet to be filed.
