Religious institutions can soon apply for grants to make services for worshippers more secure. That's after President Donald Trump signed into law a bill introduced by Michigan U-S Senator Gary Peters.
The security funding for houses of worship comes in the wake of a recent surge in threats and attacks on religious institutions such as synagogues and mosques. In a statement, Democratic Senator Gary Peters said "houses of worship should be safe havens, and people of faith should feel secure when practicing their religion." The grants will help religious institutions make their buildings more secure and train staff. The new law provides for total annual funding of 75 million dollars a year for 5 years.
