Gov Snyder makes dent in his pile of bills from lame duck

Governor Rick Snyder is making his way through a large stack of bills. Lawmakers passed hundreds of pieces of legislation during its recent lame duck session. But more than a dozen bills so far didn’t make it all the way to the finish line.

Before the end of the Legislature’s lame duck session – Snyder said he would not be a rubber stamp for the Republican Legislature’s bills. And he’s made good on that promise – even vetoing bills that got bipartisan support.

Like a bill that would have changed the state’s safe haven laws to allow for surrendered babies to be put into a device – or box – instead of surrendering the infant in person.

Snyder also vetoed legislation that would have given first time home buyers an income tax deduction. Snyder says the bills go against his goal of a simple, efficient tax code. And he vetoed changes to the Highway Advertising Act and Credit Card Arrangements Act.
