Ford Airport Numbers Continue To Break Records

Despite record cold temperatures and winter storms… February turned out to be another good month for the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.  Record breaking in fact.   The numbers rose by 8.46-percent.

“It’s pretty incredible to know that we have had 17 straight months of growth, but also 67 month of the last 74 months and this has been going back several years, that we have had passenger increases.”

February 2019 marked the busiest February in the Gerald R. Ford International Airport’s history.  Beating out last year’s record.  Tara Hernandez is the Communications Manager for the airport.  She says it’s a continuing trend adding that people like this airport. And continual upgrades may be helping the numbers.

“We keep seeing passengers using our airport, not driving to Detroit or Chicago.  I think fares are more competitive now. We’ve upgraded our amenities. Obviously with new construction, more space. Bigger restrooms, kids’ areas. People are using our airport and we are an easy, efficient airport and I think that also is contributing to our passenger record.”

Hernandez adds, the airport remains under construction in phase two of its Gateway Transformation project.  She also says growth continues this year with more air service coming to Ford airport this spring.
