Dogs rescued from Hurricane Dorian looking for new homes in Michigan

Dozens of dogs rescued from the path of Hurricane Dorian in Florida are now in Michigan, and according to officials, the dogs will soon need forever homes. Julia Willson is the president and CEO of the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing. Right now, she’s sharing an office with Bessie, a brown and white dog that’s quietly laying down on a dog bed.

“She’s about 10 years old and you can see she’s nervous and affected by the stress so we’re going to let them individually decompress," Willson said.

Bessie is one of 85 dogs removed from shelters from the Jacksonville, Florida area ahead of Hurricane Dorian. The canines were flown or driven to shelters across Michigan.

15 dogs have a temporary home at Capital Area Humane Society. Some could be ready for adoption by the end of the week.
