Decision 2019: Wendy Falb running for city commission in Grand Rapids 2nd Ward

Wendy Falb

Wendy Falb is the former President of the Grand Rapids Board of Education where she served for 10 years, and is currently the executive director of the Literacy Center of West Michigan. Her endorsements include former Grand Rapids Mayor George Hartwell, and State Senator Winnie Brinks. Falb has lived in the 2nd Ward for 35 years, and I asked her, why voters should support her bid to be the 2nd Ward’s next city commissioner in Grand Rapids.

“I’m just some buddy who has a long record of public leadership, of holding public office,” Falb said. “But I think voters should know that I am that neighbor, I’ve been that neighbor my whole life that will just step up and take care of things. I’m strong on getting things done. I’ll do the heavy lifting. I’ve got a lot of backbone, a lot of courage, and a very pragmatic problem solver.”

And what issues or challenges facing the city are most important to you personally?

“We have significant mistrust between the community and the police department, and we also have seen a rise in crime,” Falb said. We need to address that, and we need to lead on that. We also have a housing crisis, an affordable housing crisis. And I feel very strongly about sustainability issues.”

Falb takes on Milinda Ysasi in the upcoming election. The vote is set for Tuesday, November 5th.
