In October, Grand Rapids officials sat down with civic-minded software developers and programmers to team up on ideas that use city data for community benefit.

The Friendly Code panel event included discussion on the city’s 311 services and a presentation by mayor-elect Rosalynn Bliss.

Allen Clark is a brigade captain at Friendly Code – the Grand Rapids chapter of Code for America. He says you don’t need to be a code ninja, or even a novice to get involved.

In this Midday West Michigan segment, Clark talks to WGVU about the chapter, upcoming projects and the importance of open-source data in our local community.
