The crash took place close to six in the morning in the intersection of Turner Av NW and 6th St NW which is a 3-way stop.

Accident reconstructionist from the Grand Rapids Police Department Traffic Unit have determined that the bicycle, ridden by 19-year-old Devin Lamont of Grand Rapids, went through the intersection westbound without stopping at the intersection. A semi-truck was southbound on the one-way Turner Av, and after coming to a stop at the intersection, began an eastbound turn onto 6th St.

The bicycle collided with the semi and Lamont died from his injuries at the scene. The semi remained at the crash scene as well as other vehicles that witnessed the accident. Investigators do not believe that alcohol or speed were factors in this incident.
