Thanksgiving travel will be on the lighter side when it comes to the typical number of travelers on the road and at airports. The COVID 19 pandemic being culprit. But there may still be some who travel.
With that, AAA Michigan urges caution and preparation.
“The effects of COVID 29 pandemic, which includes health concerns and high unemployment, are impacting American’s decisions to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.”
Adrienne Woodland is the spokesperson for AAA Michigan says COVID will keep an incredibly high number of travelers home this holiday season.
“With health and government officials stressing that staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting sick, AAA anticipates at least a 10% drop in travel – the largest one-year decrease since the Great Recession in 2008.”
Woodland says based on earlier numbers in October, AAA would have expected up to 50 million Americans to travel for Thanksgiving, which is a slight drop from 55 million in 2019. In Michigan, the expectation was 1.6 million travelers down from 8.1 percent in 2019. But…
“As the holiday approaches and Americans monitor the public health landscape, including rising COVID-19 positive case numbers, renewed quarantine restrictions and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) travel health notices, AAA expects the actual number of holiday travelers will be even lower.)
Woodland adds that they acknowledge that the decision to travel is a personal one, but with the CDC says staying home is the best way to stop the spread, there are those who will travel. She says AAA encourage those travelers to take every precaution—and know, before you go.
“In addition to CDC guidance, travelers should also be aware of local and state travel restrictions, including testing requirements and quarantine orders.”
