AAA: Coping With Construction Alerts

As the construction season moves full speed ahead across Michigan roads and highways, AAA Michigan is kicking off some special alerts.  The alerts are part of a series: “ Coping with construction.”

It’s the first in a series of alerts that are being issued by AAA Michigan.  Entitled “Coping with Construction”, the idea behind the alerts is to provide commuters help when dealing with all the spring and summer construction projects that may cause headaches for drivers.  Here’s West Michigan Field Manager, Steven Giffel with tips to avoid any problems.

“One of the main ones is timing; traveling during non-peak hours to avoid rush hour traffic. Obviously rush hour traffic West Michigan throughout the state can be very hectic. Routing, make sure you  map out alternative routes and give them a trial run. Just so that you’re well aware if something were to happen on the roads there’s an alternative route that you can take.”

Giffel says you should also consider local traffic reports like on the radio or an app on your phone along with a few other alternatives.

“Like carpool, rideshare, public transportation, walk or bike to work. Or in some instances, work from home.”

Again the idea is to make irritating construction traffic and delays easier to handle.  You can find additional information on the Michigan Department of Transportation’s website at Michigan.gov/mdot
