Tim Meyer (D-Grand Haven)
Democrat Tim Meyer is a small business owner with locations in Holland and Grand Haven. He’s been twice appointed to the Grand Haven Central Business District Development Authority board and worked in national and local campaigns. This is the second time he’s sought political office. This time Meyer is making a run for Michigan’s 89th House district seat in Lansing.
Q: Why politics?
A: “Politics are important. This is America. We’re a democracy. This is how we decide things and that needs to include people. People need to be informed. Campaigns are important and that’s the bedrock of our society.”
Q: Under what dire circumstance or government necessity would you be willing to support a tax increase?
A: “For our future and to streamline funding in a proper way, for instance, education. We’ve cut funding for education. That is harming our future ability for businesses to hire qualified people for the jobs we need in the 21st Century to compete with China.”
Q: If the election were held today, why would you – or – why would you not, vote for your party’s Presidential nominee?
A: “I would easily vote for Hillary Clinton for President of the United States. She far out qualifies, in so many different ways, the Republican nominee. In contrast my opponent at a League of Women Voters forum has refused to say who he’ll vote for.”
