Michigan is lowering U.S. flags to half-staff in remembrance of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
 
The lowering is for Friday, the 14th anniversary of the attacks. Gov. Rick Snyder says in a statement: "We join together as Americans to remember the innocent lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the sacrifices made. We keep them and their families in our thoughts and prayers."
 

A 500-pound steel beam from the World Trade Center will be displayed in southwestern Michigan, one of many events on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
 
After a ceremony Friday, the beam will be permanently displayed next to the Benton Harbor library. Two firefighters from Niles Township drove to New York to bring the artifact to Berrien County.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a Michigan firefighter who authorities say was deliberately struck by a pickup truck as he collected money for charity.
 
     The suspect, Grant Taylor of Lansing, was arraigned Thursday. He's also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death and fleeing police.
 

The state police and Flint Police Department will receive grants to help reduce backlogs of untested sexual assault kits.
 
     Nearly $2 million will go to the state police to test more than 3,600 kits. Flint gets $163,000 to test 246 kits.
 
     The funding is part of combined $79 million pledged Thursday by a New York district attorney's office initiative and the U.S. Justice Department to cut into backlogs across the country.
 

 A 20-year-old reported missing by Kentwood authorities has been located.

The Kentwood Police Department says Katelynn Grace St. Amour is safe and has since been in contact with members of her family.

St. Amour was publicly reported missing by the department on Wednesday.

She had last been seen near a Wyoming hospital the previous Saturday evening.
