Americas Competitive Exchange, also known as ACE, is a summit held in different regions of the Americas and Caribbean twice a year.
This week, the ACE Committee is touring various sites throughout Michigan exploring global partnerships and economic development opportunities.
Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce William Ramos is a member of the committee visiting Grand Valley State University. He says differing economic climates shouldn’t stand in the way of learning from other countries.
“The climate may be different here in Michigan than it is in Latin America, for example, but there are synergies into how those economies can learn from all the great stuff that’s happening in Michigan.”
Visits include Detroit Diesel, Michigan State University, Amway, Kellogg, and the University of Michigan.
Associate Professor at the University of Technology, Jamaica, Dr. Andrea Barrett says the ACE summit helps bring together schools and businesses to share knowledge for the common good.
“Industry needs to collaborate with the universities, with academia, so that the knowledge can be disseminated out into the public and be applied to real life solutions for the people.”
The ACE Committee finishes its Michigan tour May 10th.
