Regional nonprofit economic development organization, The Right Place, along with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday that tesa tape opened its new U.S. corporate headquarters on Ottawa Avenue in Grand Rapids in late March.
A tesa plant began operating in Sparta in 1982, the company’s first operations outside of Europe at the time. That plant currently employs 175 individuals.
Brent Case is Vice-President for Business Attraction at The Right Place. He explains why tesa decided to make the move to Grand Rapids.
“So it was a couple years ago that they first hinted that they were even contemplating relocating their headquarters. They thought they might gain some efficiencies by having the corporate function closer to manufacturing.”
tesa tape, Inc. is a subsidiary of German-based tesa SE which makes self-adhesive products for various industries, including automotive, electronics and appliances.
Case says with this move, tesa adds 60 high-wage, professional and corporate jobs to Grand Rapids.
“Now that they have their corporate function here, as well as manufacturing, I’m confident that their growth will continue in West Michigan.”
