Whitmer signs bill to require posting parents’ rights notices in schools

Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a bill that will require schools to publicly post notices regarding parents’ rights as well as a quote from the Michigan Constitution.

This new law will require schools to post notices in public places that include a statement lifted from the state school code that parents and guardians have a “natural fundamental right” to direct their children’s education.

Also, schools and school offices must display Section One from Article Eight of the Michigan Constitution, which says, “religion, morality and knowledge” are necessary to “good government.”

Parental rights and what children are being taught about race and sex have been hot-button topics in this election year.
