The Legislature is in its year-end stretch. At the top of its to-do list is a controversial business incentive package.
The package has wide bipartisan support. It also has bipartisan opposition. The bills are aimed largely at helping to land big battery-powered vehicle factories that could go to other states.
Brad Williams is with the Detroit Regional Chamber, which represents businesses in southeast Michigan.
“If we’re going to continue to dominate the most-exciting industry in the world, we need to be aggressive about competing for it.”
Michael LaFaive with the free-market Mackinac Center think tank says that will come at a price.
“Of course, it’s very expensive and it forces many taxpayers to underwrite a few.”
The money could come from federal COVID-19 recovery funds.
