Detectives with the Major Case Team are investigating an early morning homicide.  It happened just after midnight when multiple 911 calls came into GRPD dispatch advising of the sound of gunshots in the 1000 block of Franklin Street SE.  Officers arrived on scene and located evidence of a shooting, at the same time a victim arrived by private transport to an area hospital.

The victim, an adult male, was pronounced dead after arrival to the hospital.  An autopsy will be performed at a later time.  Identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.  The scene of the shooting is still actively being investigated as detectives and forensics personnel will be on-scene late into the morning.  Commuters should plan accordingly and avoid the area.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the department or Silent Observer.  Detectives can be reached at (616) 456-3380 or through Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345 or www.silentobserver.org.
